It could have been slalom, but the management elected for a longboard race. There were 15 of us I think. A selection of club boards on offer. Hiflys, Race board CAT, Mistral longboard, Hifly maxes etc. Randomly I got the Mistral as everything else had gone by the time I got out the bloody changing rooms! MAybe it\'s fast but its got no non slip at all! On the way down to the course I was sliding all over the place and trying to get used to the board... I\'ve been windsurfing since 1999, and had never sailed a proper long board in my life.

John Skye was up with his dad in between Hawaii and Morocco, he would have joined in were it not for the missing sponsorship kit from China. Afterwards he agreed how technical longboards are to sail. Like if you get it slightly wrong you need a 3mile lake to turn around in.... like Dave does. Anyway I treated it respectfully and went completely the opposite tack to everyone else on the opening beat, mainly to take the heat off myself. Tacked OK, tacked again, perhaps I can do it. I tacked like you do on a wave board, fast don\'t piss around and switch quickly. On the run I couldn\'t get the plywood dagger up, it was so tight in it\'s box. Footstraps, er what are they for... So it was a bit hairy. Anyway I didn\'t fall in. Dave Lewis with neck trouble won with his 9.5, C4MUN ditto 2nd. I had a good race with John Andel and Phil Young. I beat Phil, but apparently failed to cross the line properly, but Phil didn\'t mind. So I was 4th.

Sandy paws came in after the sun had gone down and the wind switched. Annette\'s UJ came unstuck and needed some attention. Mike packed and went and got his slalom board!

Great fun, bring it on....
